MERIT Library Noise About to Begin

by Jesse Winter 1. July 2009 11:47

This summer UW Physical Plant will be drilling 20+ holes in the MERIT Library floor to accommodate power outlets throughout the library.  Drilling is scheduled to begin the week of July 6, and is scheduled to continue into mid-August.  Since the holes are going through thick concrete, there will be significant noise in MERIT Library and the Teacher Ed building in general.  The payoff will be a more convenient and flexible space that allows library patrons to plug in laptops and other devices throughout the space.  The majority of the floor outlets will be on the third floor, in the open study areas.  Four outlets will be installed in the floor of the fourth floor instructional space (room 401b), allowing classes in that space to more easily incorporate tech devices without worrying about batteries running low.

This remodeling project is made possible by the Parents Fund, and will be a great enhancement to MERIT Library.  We apologize in advance to library patrons and building occupants for the inevitable noise.  MERIT Library has ear plugs in stock, if the drilling is too loud for comfort.  Just ask library staff and we'll be happy to give you some.

Lab and Classroom Spaces Available

by Jesse Winter 3. October 2008 16:15

Looking for a computer lab or classroom space? The CIMC computer labs have openings both this semester and next. And, if you have not heard the news yet, we have revised the policy for reserving the two CIMC classroom spaces. These two spaces are widely available for use, and 401b has new tables and chairs installed this month! There is also an 8 laptop cart that can be used in any CIMC computer lab or classroom.

There are also rooms and resources in Ed Sci that are available for classes or occasional events. Lecture halls 204 and 228 are well-suited for large classes and events. A 28 laptop cart is available for any class or meeting in Ed Sci.

To request a lab or classroom, please contact Jesse Winters.
