Resources for Spring 2022 Instruction

We encourage you to create a plan in case you may need to be temporarily away from the classroom.

This page offers a variety of potential resources to support your in-person instruction this spring. Note that instructors should not change the approved course modality.

For more information, visit the Spring 2022 Instruction page on the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Mentoring’s website.

Film Showings

MERIT has a number of digitized films in our library collection. Email Library & Research Services Manager Jim Jonas at james.jonas@wisc.edu to request a film.

You can also review videos that are available through UW Libraries.

MERIT Workshops

MERIT offers various workshops on topics ranging from Digital Media and Storytelling to Library and Research Skills. Email teaching-support@education.wisc.edu to request a workshop.

Pre-Recorded Lecture

Tools are available to instructors to make pre-recorded lectures for courses. A pre-recorded lecture may consist of audio only or may include video from your desktop or webcam. If you’re already using PowerPoint for your class presentation, you can use its built-in functionality.

If you’re looking to create a quick, short pre-recorded lecture without a lot of editing, check out Kaltura Capture. To get started with Kaltura Capture:

  1. Go to Kaltura Mediaspace (mediaspace.wisc.edu). Click on Guest in the top right corner to log in.
  2. Click on Add New and choose Kaltura Capture.
  3. Follow the instructions on the page that loads.
  4. After you have recorded your video, you can add it to the course.

You can also upload audio or video that you create on your mobile device to Kaltura and add it to your course.

For more advanced recording and editing, check out Camtasia. If you don’t already have Camtasia, it can be accessed from the Campus Software Library.

Zoom Meeting

Zoom is integrated into Canvas at UW-Madison. To create a Zoom meeting within your Canvas site:

  1. Click on Zoom in the Course Navigation menu on the left-hand side of the page.
  2. Click on Schedule a Meeting button.
  3. Fill out the form and then click Save.

When it’s time for your meeting, you and your students will be able to access the Zoom meeting by clicking on Zoom in the Course Navigation menu and clicking on the title of the meeting.

Asynchronous Canvas Module

MERIT has created a course module template that you can customize for your course. If you would like to use it in your course, please email teaching-support@education.wisc.edu.
